Trekking:there is very good trekking in the Pir Pinjal mountains to the north and east of the town. The area is very little visited by tourists, but offers a range of routes from fairly easy low altitude ones to challenging routes over high passes. Manimahesh Travels by the Laxminarian Temple complex can arrange treks with good guides and reliable porters. The Monda Jot Pass trek is a seven day route crossing a dramatic 4250m pass. An extra day can be added on to visit the popular local pilgrimage site of Kundi Lake. Best completed between May and early October.
Orchard Huts village homestay option 15k outside Chamba has a trekking hut at 2200m with fabulous views of the Pir Pinjal. Several short trekking routes are availlable from there including beautiful walks through cedar forests and up to Gujar villages.
Jeep safaris to the little visited Pangi valley can also be arranged from Chamba. Ask local travel agents.
