Valley of Flowers National Park

Climate

The best time to visit is from Mid July to End August, its almost monsoon so best time for flowers to bloom. There are about 520 species of flowering plants and the area was declared as a National Park in 1982. The animal like Himalayan black beers, musk deers, brown beers, Bharal and rich variety of birds and butter flies are found in this national Park. Right now one can see around 125 to 200 species of flowers.

From July to August it's the best climate to trek this beautiful valley. Average rainfall in this area is almost 1800.2 mm. Valley of flowers is located at an altitude of 3250 to 6750 meters from the sea level. Maximum temperature in this area goes up to 17°C and Minimum goes down to 7°C. This temperature is best to trek this high altitude valley.

Flora and fauna

Flora: Orchids, Poppies, Primulas, Calendulas, Daisies and Anemones.

Fauna: Tahr, Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Red Fox, Common Langur, Bharal, Serow, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Brown Bear.

History

The Valley Of Flowers was unknown to the Britishers till a British mountaineers Frank Smythe and Mr. R L Holdsworth first discovered this place on 9th July 1931 while returning after successfully scaling Mt Kamet. Frank Smythe came again in the year 1935 to explore the area and collect seeds. He wrote a book called "The Valley of flowers".
