Parijat Academy

Founded in 2003, with 4 children and a bamboo hut, this not-for-profit school for the underprivileged now teaches 500 students from the surrounding area. Located in Pamohi, Garchuk, on the outskirts of the Deepor Beel wildlife Sanctuary, and run by Uttam Teron, winner of the CNN IBN "Real Heroes" Award, Parijat Academy continues to provide free education and cultural opportunities for children who otherwise have limited options. Parijat's continued existence is dependent upon donors and volunteers alike. Uttam Teron is always open to taking on volunteers who are serious about engaging children in all manner of subjects from maths, to computers, to art and any other creative projects. They have an excellent guest house and volunteers get the chance to live with a local and very lovely Karbi family, and the 20 something hostel children who live and study at Parijat.
