Most of Maibara's visitors come in by train and never see more than the station. A major junction, Maibara is along the Tokaido Shinkansen line from Osaka and Kyoto to Nagoya and Tokyo 2 hours. It is also the eastern terminus of some kaisoku and shinkaisoku translated as rapid and new rapid commuter trains from the Kansai region. Some services continue on the Hokuriku Main Line as locals, stopping at every station until Nagahama or Åmi-Shiotsu. A few trains proceed east, terminating at Ågaki. Be aware that some eastbound rapid and special rapid services terminate at Yasu, which is short of Maibara when coming from the west.
