Nwa Le Bo Pagoda
12 miles north of town
Take a pickup from the bridge, or motorcycle taxi to the base. Note the pickups mentioned in LP do NOT run. You must hike up the mountain 2 hours each way to see this pagoda. Not quite worth the effort.
Pa Auk Taw Ya Monastery
9 miles south of town
Take local pickup south. Enormous, tranquil meditation centre with friendly people. Arrive by 10am to walk to the eating hall for an 11am meal with hundreds of monks and a few foreigners studying meditation.
