Auckland Region

See the Auckland guide for information on accessing the region by plane.

Central Auckland is easy to navigate, and due to its compact size quite possible to do on foot. Greater Auckland is a different matter, as the city covers an area comparable to London, without a particularly effective public transport system.

There is a suburban rail system that has been steadily improving in recent years. Buses are plentiful, but hold on tight as the training and standards of the drivers leaves something to be desired.

Intercity Coachlines (http://www.intercitycoach...) operate a national bus network with many departure and arrives in to Auckland every day of the year. Tickets can be purchased online or throughout the country at numerous agents including the i-site network. A cheaper option is nakedbus.com (http://nakedbus.com/) which also has daily services across the country, including to/from Auckland Airport. Fares start at $1 if you book early enough.
