Cali

Cali (http://www.cali.gov.co/) is a city in southwestern Colombia, capital of the Valle del Cauca department. It has about 2 million inhabitants and it is a significant industrial and commercial center of activity in Colombia. Being at around 1,000 meters above sea level, it has a warm, but not excessively hot climate.

It's best known for its salsa music.

In December of 2010 the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning against visiting Cali, warning of a surge in crime, general insecurity, guerrilla activity and kidnappings. (http://travel.state.gov/t...)

Cali is considered the most dangerous urban center in Colombia, with more than 2200 homicides in 2010. (http://www.elpais.com.co/...) Crime is a big problem, and there are also urban militias of the FARC-EP active in the metropolitan area. See the Stay Safe section of this article.
